iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR: How to buy Apple’s new phones

First, you’ll need to figure out which new iPhone is right for you. We’ve put together this guide to help. Here’s how, when, and where to buy the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

UNLOCKED

As you might expect, you can order the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max from Apple unlocked, if you so choose. Pricing for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max can be found below.
  • iPhone XS 64GB: $1,000, or $49.91 per month with the iPhone upgrade program
  • iPhone XS 256GB: $1,150, or $56.16 per month with the iPhone upgrade program
  • iPhone XS 512GB: $1,350, or $64.50 per month with the iPhone upgrade program
  • iPhone XS Max 64GB: $1,100, or $54.08 per month with the iPhone upgrade program
  • iPhone XS Max 256GB: $1,250, or $60.33 per month with the iPhone upgrade program
  • iPhone XS Max 512GB: $1,450, or $68.66 per month with the iPhone upgrade program
In addition to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Apple also unveiled the new iPhone XR, which does away with some of the features in the iPhone XS, but comes at a lower price. The iPhone XR is now up for pre-order, with in-store availability set to begin o October 26. Pricing for the iPhone XR can be found below, though we’re not currently sure if the iPhone XR will be available unlocked given the fact that there doesn’t seem to be an unlocked option on the Apple website — only carrier options. We’ll update this article with more information when we have it. If it is available unlocked, it will likely offer the same pricing as carriers, which can be found below.
  • iPhone XR 64GB: $749, or $37.41 per month with the iPhone Upgrade Program
  • iPhone XR 128GB: $799, or $39.50 per month with the iPhone Upgrade Program
  • iPhone XR 256GB: $899, or $43.66 per month with the iPhone Upgrade Program
Apple isn’t the only one to offer the new iPhones unlocked. It’s likely we’ll also see the new devices pop up at Amazon, Best Buy, and other places too.

RETAILERS

Looking to score a sweet deal on a new iPhones at your local store? You’re in luck because some retailers are offering special deals on Apple’s newest smartphone.

Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club will carry the new iPhone XR and has a special deal for its members. Pre-order the iPhone XR on the Sam’s Club website and activate it between October 26 and October 28 to receive a $100 gift card. While the deal works with any of the major carriers, you will need active the XR on an installment or two-year plan.

CARRIERS

Perhaps you’d prefer to get the phones straight from your wireless provider. Here’s everything you need to know about the iPhone’s pricing from your carrier.

AT&T

AT&T is carrying all three new iPhones, as well as the Apple Watch Series 4. Customers can order the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max from AT&T now, and the iPhone XR starting October 19. AT&T says that customers can order the phones in-store, online, or through the myATT app.
When it comes to specific pricing, AT&T’s can be found below.
  • iPhone XR 64GB: $750, or $25 per month for 30 months on AT&T Next.
  • iPhone XS 64GB: $1,000, or $33.34 per month for 30 months on AT&T Next, or $41.67 per month for 24 months on AT&T Next Every Year.
  • iPhone XS 256GB: $1,150, or $38.34 per month for 30 months on AT&T Next, or $47.92 per month for 24 months on AT&T Next Every Year.
  • iPhone XS 512GB: $1,350, or $45 per month for 30 months on A&T Next, or $56.25 per month for 24 months on AT&T Next Every Year.
  • iPhone XS Max 64GB: $1,100, or $36.67 per month for 30 months on AT&T Next, or $45.84 per month for 24 months on AT&T Next Every Year.
  • iPhone XS Max 256GB: $1,250, or $41.67 per month for 30 months on AT&T Next, or $52.09 per month for 24 months on AT&T Next Every Year.
  • iPhone XS Max 512GB: $1,450, or $48.34 per month for 30 months on AT&T Next, or $60.42 per month for 24 months on AT&T Next Every Year.
AT&T is offering some pretty sweet deals, too. The company has announced that for a limited time, customers who buy an iPhone X, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max and add a new line will get an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus at no extra cost, or $700 toward another Apple device.

Sprint

Sprint is offering the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, as well as the iPhone XR. Pricing for the new phones can be found below.
  • iPhone XR 64GB: $750, or $31.25 per month for 18 months on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XR 128GB: $800, or $31.25 per month for 18 months with a $50 down payment on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XR 256GB: $900, or $31.25 per month for 18 months with a $150 down payment on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XS 64GB: $1,000, or $41.67 per month for 18 months on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XS 256GB: $1,150, or $41.67 per month for 18 months with a $150 down payment on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XS 512GB: $1,350, or $41.67 per month for 18 months with a $350 down payment on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XS Max 64GB: $1,100, or $45.84 per month for 18 months on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XS Max 256GB: $1,250, or $45.84 per month for 18 months with a $150 down payment on a Sprint Flex lease.
  • iPhone XS Max 512GB: $1,450, or $45.84 per month for 18 months with a $350 down payment on a Sprint Flex lease.
Sprint has a few deals going too. For a limited time, when you trade in a flagship device like the iPhone X, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, and so on, you’ll get the iPhone XR on a Sprint Flex lease for $0 per month.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile is offering iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, all at the same time as Apple. That’s to say, you can now order the iPhone XS and XS Max from T-Mobile. Full pricing details for the iPhone XS and XS Max on T-Mobile can be found below:
  • iPhone XS 64GB: $1,000, or $30 per month with a $280 down payment on T-Mobile’s Equipment Installment Plan (EIP).
  • iPhone XS 256GB: $1,150, or $30 per month with a $430 down payment on EIP.
  • iPhone XS 512GB: $1,350, or $30 per month with a $630 down payment on EIP.
  • iPhone XS Max 64GB: $1,100, or $30 per month with a $380 down payment on EIP.
  • iPhone XS Max 256GB: $1,250, or $30 per month with a $530 down payment on EIP.
  • iPhone XS Max 512GB: $1,450, or $30 per month with a $730 down payment on EIP.
When it comes to special deals, T-Mobile says that it’s offering customers up to $300 toward the purchase of a new iPhone with an eligible trade-in and that credit will be applied to the users account in installments over 24 months.
The carrier also has a pretty sweet deal for those willing to jump to the T-Mobile Essentials plan. According to the carrier, you’ll be able to to get the four lines of unlimited T-Mobile Essentials lines and four iPhone XR phones for $40 a month per line, with autopay. In other words, if you have three friends or a family of four, and everyone wants an iPhone XR, you’ll pay a total of $160 for all four lines and monthly payments on an iPhone XR — which equates to $40 per line, for a total of 36 months. The only caveat is that you have to trade-in your old iPhone 7, iPhone 8, Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Google Pixel, Google Pixel 2, LG V30, or LG G7 to take advantage of the deal.

Verizon

Verizon is offering the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Like other carriers, orders for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have started. The iPhone XR is now available for pre-order from Verizon, with full sales set to begin on October 26. Here’s a quick rundown of the pricing for the new iPhones.
  • iPhone XR 64GB: $750, or $31.24 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XR 128GB: $800, or $33.33 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XR 256GB: $900, or $37.49 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XS 64GB: $1,000, or $41.66 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XS 256GB: $1,150, or $47.91 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XS 512GB: $1,350, or $56.24 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XS Max 64GB: $1,100, or $45.83 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XS Max 256GB: $1,250, $52.08 per month for 24 months.
  • iPhone XS Max 512GB: $1,450, or $60.41 per month for 24 months.
Unlike other carriers, Verizon has a few deals going around. Here’s a rundown of those deals.
  • Buy an iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max through Verizon, and you will get $750 off a second iPhone, as long as you purchase both on a Verizon payment plan and activate a new line. That offer is available to both existing and non-existing customers.
  • 25 percent off all iPhone XR cases between October 19 and October 26.
  • Guarantee of at least $100 trade-in value for customers that buy an iPhone XS, XS Max, 8, or 8 Plus. That discount will be applied over 24 months as bill credits.
  • Buy an iPhone on the Verizon device payment plan and get $100 off an iPad on a device payment plan, or $50 off an Apple Watch on a device payment plan.
  • Buy an iPhone, Apple Watch, or iPad, and get 25 percent off select Beats products.

U.S. Cellular

U.S. Cellular is also offering the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The phones are up for order now through U.S. Cellular. The carrier is also offering the iPhone XR, which is now available for pre-order.
When it comes to deals, U.S. Cellular is offering customers who buy the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR, access to the new Unlimited with Payback Total plan, which pays back users for data that they don’t use. Customers get back $10 per month when they use less than 3GB of data per line.
Customers pre-order the iPhone XR between October 19 and October 25 will also get $250 back in bill credits.

Comcast Xfinity Mobile

Like other carriers, Xfinity Mobile is offering the iPhone XS and XS Max for order now. The iPhone XR is now up for pre-order from Xfinity Mobile, with full sales to begin on October 26.
As a special deal, Xfinity Mobile is offering new customers $300 if they purchase a new iPhone, activate a new line, and port over their number.

Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile will be one of the first prepaid carriers to offer the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
Although Mint Mobile is not offering any promotional deals on the iPhone XS and XS Max, it does offer an option to pay for the phones over time with a third-party service called SmartPay. Monthly payments and the contract length are determined by credit, so you’ll need to apply to see exactly where you stand.
If you’d rather not deal with monthly payments, Mint Mobile also allows you to purchase the phone outright. The iPhone XS starts at $999, while the XS Max will set you back at least $1,099.
